Here’s a short video documenting the opening night of ‘Bridges___’, an interactive sound installation inside the North Tower of the Tyne Bridge itself.
In 2016 a mix was vinyl pressed and installed in the Hatton Gallery of Newcastle University before being taken to an exhibition in Berlin. In 2017, the piece was expanded as part of the AHRC’s Being Human Festival and in collaboration with Newcastle University’s School of Architecture and the Humanities Research Institute (NUHRI), ‘Bridges___’ was installed in the North Tower of the Tyne Bridge itself as part of the Scaling The Heights programme. Seven plinths supported seven speakers, representing and sonifying the bridges across the Tyne. The public were encouraged to “mix” between the ambient and the hidden, internal resonances. The captured field recordings interspersed with the realtime reverberation of traffic rumbling on the road overhead was truly well received and future installations of this experience will be arranged.
Some of the work was later featured on Resonance FM: more info here.
