Cities and Memory sent a call out for contributions to a ‘Sound Photography’ project. The idea was to generate music and sound in response to a photograph chosen from their library resource. I chose to explore some of the recordings I’d been making with my ambisonic audio rig over the last few months. “Doorway Effect” explored the phenomenon that passing through a doorway worsens memory; or, conversely, that remembering is easier in the room where the information was taken in. In the piece, each sonic doorway serves as a portal to different memories and acoustic panoramas.
